Both stunning, but I'd go for Italy.

From the Alps and the Camanian Volcanic Arc to jewels like the sub-alpine lakes, the Venetian Lagoon, the Mediterranean islands and so on. Italia takes it, in my opinion.

The new Matteo Garrone film " A tale of tales" has been entirely shot in Italy.

Some nice scenery overall: I luoghi del film

I haven't been to California but I believe it's quite amazing

California has areas more beautiful and much uglier. Yosemite is one of the special places on the planet, Tahoe is gorgeous but at least half of California is ugly. All of Italy is scenic.

California wins easily. But I'm not a fun of Italy (too noisy, too disorderly, surprisingly cold in winter)

Natural scenery. Even the first pic barely qualifies as it has buildings in it.

I would think it terms of diversity, California might have the edge. In terms of consistency, Italy.

Maybe not so much with the disorderly but California can be every bit as noisy and away from the coast, which is what everyone knows of California, it can get very cold. One of the coldest temperatures recorded in the lower 48 states was in California, -45F. The Sierra Nevada mts also has one of the snowiest spots anywhere in North America.

Why do we have to make a choice? Both are outstandingly scenic and both have areas of great ugliness.
