As a German I am quite unable in identifying with Western, Northern, Eastern and Southern Europe. Why not include Central Europe?
I didn't include it because I wanted there to be as few as possible options and that's how the UN divides up Europe. If I were to add Central Europe, then I would have at least divide South America into 3 or 4 regions, and the US as well. It just would have been a mess, this way there is a concrete definition that the world generally agrees upon. Furthermore Germany historically has always been part of Western Europe (Holy Roman Empire) also isn't Germany fairly close to Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, and Switzerland on a cultural level? If so, those countries in my opinion are 100% western. However if you are from east Germany then I could somewhat understand why.
European countries (partially or totally) in the Western Hemisphere (my definition of Western Europe):
Denmark
Norway
UK
Ireland
Portugal
France
Spain
Netherlands
Iceland
However according to the UN, Western Europe is:
Belgium, Cyprus, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, the Holy See, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, San Marino, Spain, Sweden and United Kingdom.
