If the Palestinians put down their weapons there would be no more war, if the Israelis put down their weapons there would be no more Israelis.
For this reason I side with the Israelis.
This is quite a poignant point and although the israeli land grab is so stupid, all neighbouring countries will ideally like to see the fall of the state of Israel.
I think the Israeli armed forces have a bad PR image but really they're just trying to do their best in a difficult situation where everyone around them want or would be indifferent to the destruction of their country. Not saying they're great people but they're restrained esp. considering the situation and their military capability.
The Chinese government officially supports Palestinian causes, but maintains relations with Israel; there is basically no material benefit from an alliance with Palestine, unlike Israel, and ultimately the modern CCP values real benefits over rhetoric.
Most Chinese know next to nothing about the Israel-Palestine conflict, have little interest in it, and very little to sayon the matter. Among those who do, there is basically an even split among people whose mindset can be summed up thus:
"Hm, many people say that Jews control all the banks and money in the West, they always try to steal, and they are not good people. I think they are very mean to the Palestinians. Do you think Adolph Hitler was really a bad man?"
Or
"Hm, I think that the Palestinians are terrorists and always trying to kill the Israelis, so Israel is smart to build a wall to keep them out. Israel is wealthy and strong. This is good."
Neither is a particularly enlightened or nuanced viewpoint, but then, modern and historical China are quite removed from the issue and it doesn't really matter to them.
People view Israel very positively here, tend to think that it's really powerful and advanced and so much better than us (well we love saying that everyone else is doing better than us lol) etc. But no one really takes sides as no one really knows what's going on over there.
No matter what you think about it the condition that people are being kept in in Gaza is terrible. And actually does Israel no favors as it puts public opinion in many places against them.
There is no "kept" in Gaza. Gazan's need to be kept at the same responsibility for their actions as Israeli are. Terrible condition? Take a look at the new Mall.
