This question made me wonder about my early childhood education in Bangladesh vs. my education in USA. I recall not having to attend actual school for too many hours but had many hours of privet teacher. But that could be because I was in 1,2nd grade over there vs. rest were in USA. So I went to Google & found this article from 2014

Australia: School year commences around the end of January (after about 5 weeks summer holiday starting just before Christmas). Two weeks' break at Easter. Two weeks' break in July. Two weeks' break in September/early October. Plus a few one-day public holidays.
Total time at school - about 39 weeks (give or take a day or three). Approx 195 days.
School day is normally around 9.00 am to 3.30 pm, five days a week.

Canada averages about 900 hours a year pretty consistently across the country.

Its 8-12 or 9-13 for 1st graders in my town at least.
In the U.S., most elementary schools start around 9:00 and end around 3:30. Middle schools start and end a bit earlier than that, and then high schools start and end the earliest. Generally high school students will start school in the 7:00 hour, and end between 2:00 and 3:00.
Most U.S. schools start in mid August or early Sept, and end in early May or mid June. Breaks vary, but generally they're off for public holidays, a few days for Thanksgiving (some get the whole week off, or a week off during the fall at some point), 2 weeks for Christmas and a week off in the spring.
Long hours and more days doesn't always mean better results.
In the US median: 943 hours for 1st-graders, 1,016 hours for 7th-graders and 1,025 hours for 11th-graders. (varies from state to state) Texas, for instance, would seem to require the most school time: 7 hours a day for 180 days, or 1,260 hours in all.(but incl. lunch time)
