The excellent "2000 Miles" is actually about the loss of Pretenders guitarist James Honey-Moon Scott who OD'd in 1982. Chrissie Hynde, devastated with grief (she actually lost 2 band members to drugs), cloaked it as a Christmas song. It takes on a new meaning when you realize the background.

Why is this in the world forum?

It's still deemed a Christmas song, albeit not among the more popular ones, although I personally quite the like the sing which is why I posted it, although I am aware of the deaths of band members James Honeyman-Scott and Pete Farndon.

Similarly 'Stay Another Day' by East 17 is considered a Christmas Song in the UK, however in reality it was written by the band's lead songwriter Tony Mortimer about the suicide of his brother Ollie.

Mortimer explained: "It was based on my brother's suicide and losing someone. What would you do if you had one more day with a loved one?... It was all based on conversations I'd had with my brother and I was trying to change it into a love song about the end of a relationship."

Whilst 'Happy Xmas (War Is Over)' by John Lennon and 'Stop the Cavalry' by Jona Lewie are both anti-war songs that became Christmas favourites.

As for the world forum, I think it covers quite a wide criteria of topics.
