London

NYC has a lot of people with so and so heritages but ultimately born there. (Like many people in NYC who will tell you they're irish and Italians but come to find out they're regular Americans from NYC and just had some old ancestors from those countries), while in London when a person says he/she is italian or irish they mean ACTUAL IRELAND AND ITALY!!!

London has actual people from all sorts of European countries.... in NYC not as much. In london hungarians, latvians, polish, germans, spaniards, french are ACTUAL people from those countries.... not quarter this, half that like in America.

London also has large numbers of people from their ancient colonies in the Americas, Asia, Africa, Oceania.... NYC has very few Africans!

NYC wins in people from the Americas, but surprisingly London has a thriving South American community with Brazilians, Argentines, Colombians, Chileans that rivals NYC.

What NYC has that London doesn't have much it's Mexicans, Central Americans, Puerto Ricans.

Interesting note, up until the 90's there very very few South Americans in London and the British government encouraged them to migrate there especially educated people who spoke English well.

It is interesting that London and NYC have currently similar total population and similar share of foreign born, in botj cases London is leading little bit, whith higher share of foreign born and higher total population(howewer NYC has more illegals)

You are right that population of NYC with european heritage is 3rd, 4th, 5th generation, mostly don t know languages of their ancestors, while London is full of european immigrants and 2nd generation (that speaks those languages and is more attached to country of their parents)

London and NYC are arguably the most diverse cities in the world (with Toronto as 3rd rival).

So it is almost impossible to find a country that has no community in those cities.

London has higher share of people from their former colonies and more Europeans thanks to proximity and EU free movement.

NYC has much more Latinos thanks to proximity and other reasons as Latinos No.1 destination being the US, while Arabs are migrating to Western Europe and so on.

Yes share of Africans (subsaharan Africa) is rather small in NYC, but growing quickly, while London has historical ties to some African countries (Nigeria, Ghana,Kenya, Uganda and so on)

London is pretty much a White city, with some non-Whites here and there. White British make already 45! Other Whites another 15-20%. Blacks 7%, Indians 7%. White town!!!
New York is much more diverse.

White is a pretty simplifying term..... any one can be white. IT's CULTURE/LANGUAGE what really makes a place diverse. Not skin color

It's ridiculous and simplistic to state such nonsense as "London never rivals the Big Apple!". If that were the case this thread wouldn't even exist. Both cities are the most diverse on the planet and are probably equal albeit in different ways. You mentioned Brazil as being more diverse which I find hard to believe, although I notice your need to compare a whole country to a single city!

New York City, like EVERY other city in the US people live among their own skin colour. The US isn't diverse and mixed, it's people living side by side in their own communities, in other words segregated.

Look at this map:

White
Black
Asian
Hispanic
Other

When White people move, they move to other White areas. When Black people move, they move to other Black areas. That is not mixing. Why is this? Mutual distrust.

NYC is ethnically diverse, but that is not the case in every US city. For example in California there is probably areas which are 50% White, 10% Black, 40% Hispanic. Americans call it "ooooh, we are so diverse (but I'm not moving to a Black area)". In fact there's three "nationalities" White American, Black American and Mexicans. Three.

A city like mine is 95% white, 0.5% black and 4.5% Asian. Or let's at least assume so. Turku has over 100 different ethnicities: Finnish, Russian, Estonian, Albanian, Croatian, Danish, Filipino, Vietnamese, Chinese, Indian, Polish, Ukrainian, Somali, Moroccan, Turkish, Kurdish, Congolese, Ethiopian and so on. While Turku is almost completely White, it is MORE DIVERSE than that Californian city. Because the White people represent so many different countries, nationalities and ethnicities! And they are almost all 1.,2. or 3. generation! Not "my ancestors moved from Sicily and Ireland 300 years ago, I'm Italian-Irish" kind of 'diversity'.

Already the common phrase on C-D "well, among white Americans the crime rates are not high", in fact: they don't give a rat's ass about Blacks. In a diverse country there would be no BLM movement.

Estonian lives matter.
