I think City Data is lacking such a kind of thread and i think it wouldn't hurt if someone showcased its own country with a pic a day each. The choice of only one pic per post and one pic per day is to not get the thread too cluttered.

Some explainations about the place where the pic is taken is advised.

I'll start with Craco - Basilicata:

This place is literally a ghost town, it had to be evacuated in 1963 after yet another earthquake struck the town who then had to be completely abandoned because the terrain it was built on is at risk of landsliding.
The town dates to the low middle age and it's fascinating for his history as much as for how people actually you can still see that life was suddenly blocked when people got evacuated. There are still desks in school for example. The place can be visited only with a local guide which shouldn't be hard to get.

A modern town to host the old inhabitans of Craco was built, it's totally unremarkable and sits just at the foothill of the old town

Starting with the Banff Springs Hotel in Banff, Alberta. An iconic hotel built in 1888. In Canada you will find in most major cities and in this case, a national park, a " Chateau Style " hotel.

Vanha Rauma (Old Rauma) is the first one which comes into mind in Finland. It's the largest wooden-only district in Northern Europe built on the original Medieval city plan. The houses are mainly from the 1700's, so not Medieval. Rauma was a Hansa affiliate and an important port in the Baltic, and nowadays it's filled with small artisan shops, cafés and others. It was added to the UNESCO World Heritage list in 1991. The whole area was in a bad shape in the 1960's and due to be bulldozed, but luckily it survived.

not a place but a building. "la maison des têtes", in Colmar, Haut-Rhin. build in 1609 then restored in 1738. from up close it's even better.

Stawamus Chief just before Squamish B.C. It is the second largest piece of granite in the world after The Rock of Gibraltar.
I'm cheating by posting 2 photos, to show you how hight and big it is. Many rock climbers climb the face of it, many hike the trails up from the back to the top, and now there is a gondola for those that want to take the easy way up.

Reminds me of Poorvo which we visited about ten years ago. Lovely place
