There is a correlation if I recall if both of one's parents lived a long life it gives one on average a three year boost. However there are other factors that play a greater role such as exercise, diet, social life etc.

I believe I read the three year factoid in the Blue Zones book.

Tall traveller.-
It is true that quantity and quality of life is not the same.
Therefore that the factor of suicides and homicides
that values the joy of life and fear of danger included is very important evaluate them separately .

I put here the so-called Index of danger adds homicides and suicides these 3 Mediterranean countries the best in life expectancy Spain Italy and France for this order for comparative also in this Index they are the best.

SUICIDES HOMICIDES HAZARD INDEX
ITALY...........4,7 0,9 5,6
SPAIN,,,,,,,,,,,5,1 0,8 5,9
FRANCE,,,,,,,,12,3 1 13,3

Italy and Spain are countries that has for this order the better Index of danger in the World.France is somewhat delayed back,.

But is interesting let is see this Index between the Great Powers with more people.-

USA,,,,,,,,,,,,,12,1 5,4 17,5
JAPAN...........18,5 0,4 18,9
RUSIA,,,,,,,,,,19,5 13,1 32,6

The index worst side is for Venezuela and Colombia Brasil and Mexico
VENEZUELA,,,,2,6 56,6 62

We can think around this Ranking many things but what is clear is that Italy and Spain is where there is more security and more desire to live in the world.-

It's more like an indicator of diet than development. Life expectancy amongst developed countries probably overlaps with obesity. Japanese, Italians, France, and Spaniards are quite thin in general, at least not fat.

You hit the nail on the head this time around. Life expectancy indicates more diet and habits whereas the best indicator for development is the infrastructure that's in place, how well it is managed and so on

Kukulgur,Improb.-

Public works is a partial Index to see the quality of life of a country.
For example as would the number of aircraft carrier or the amount of petroleum they produce a country and where the first is USA.
China and Spain are they the 2 countries with more km high-speed of trains.USA not have any km and this it does not guarantee the quality of life in Spain or China above on USA.

But with a very good publics works the population may have very poorly attended in their health or safety or nutrition and this is the that most influences their quality of life the countries.

And for this is best measured the quality of life with the statistical of Life Expectancy because it comprises several factors.-( health quality,, safety ( homicides number) and also wealth per capita and nutrition quality.)-etc

The thread asks for the best indicator of developmentness (sadly not a real word). Now you talk about QOL. Not the same thing. So make up your mind what you are asking.

If you wanna get an idea about quality of life, then check out HDI, it includes your beloved life expectancy but also adds education and income into the mix.

They don't have the highest suicide rate. It's quite high but not the highest. Korea and some Baltic States are worse.

Modernity introduces whole range of new joy of life sucking miseries into human life, i.e. permanent anxiety, endemic competition and the need to adjust oneself, isolation/alienation, class/income segregation, break down of communities/families and the rise of institutions, rootlessness, lack of traditions, centrally distributed uniformity/sterility/views&expectations, commodification of all areas of life. A more "primitive" person cannot have a quality life in the modern world. It took some serious conditioning for the people to view quality of life through stuff, infrastructure and career opportunities.

In my opinion countries with highest quality of life are somewhat technologically&politically modern countries that could avoid collapse of everything (non material) that makes a human life worth of living. As for longevity, it is so class sensitive, for example, lower classes in USA have horrible health, to the point I doubt official longevity numbers, people develop serious health issues in 40s and, if they are lucky, by 70 y.o. they are thoroughly dependent and marginably functional. Depression, substance abuse, mental deviations these seems to plague the developed world because development robs us of many things a human soul require. The only way around that - raising a new crop of humans in a cave of depravity so they wouldnt know what they miss. Technically, a limited creature like that should have stellar quality of life, especially if he is somewhat higher on the food chain.
