From my experience, I know of many people that refer to height and weight of a person in the imperial measurement scale (like 5 foot xx inches and xxx pounds).... Otherwise, we measure in metric system units.

I think that Imperial units is simply something we should abandon, they are just not as effective as Metric units when making calculations or conversions. The fact that their use is still widespread in the USA doesn't reflect well on the country (they're also being used in Liberia but that's because this country has several ties to the USA and follows several of his policies on such matters)
It depends on what you are doing with the measurements. Metric is better when you need to switch units. Say go from cm to km.

Imperial is an little better when you need to double, halve, triple or cut by 1/3. Also imperial users tend to be better at estimating things by eye and it's units are kind of better set for certain types of uses like cooking(due to the larger measures).
