some good news for LA Los Angeles Location Production Jump 5.8% in Second Quarter | Variety

but still, not a single major movie has been filmed or is planned on being filmed in LA this year or next.

Next to no major films were shot in LA last quarter. I guess most of the work has gone to small indie production

Yes, of course. All the major movie studios and talent agencies are based there. That is where you go to make it in the industry as an actor, director, etc.

true but a lot of the filing for feature films is being handled elsewhere

Yes, like in Canada, UK, Eastern Europe or all over the US. Why? Bacause it is cheaper due to movie production incentives. The upcoming movie Downsizing (with Matt Damon) was partially shot in Northern Norway. The movie producers received 4.5 million NOK in return from the Norwegian government.
