I've also heard that Taiwan is now you say Thailand in the Thai language LOL.

Some people think all of Africa is black even though North Africa is Arab.

Actually, even Southern Europe, as the southern most part of Canada, Middle Island, at 41*41N, and even the southern tip of Ontario (Windsor) is further south than Some parts of the northern Mediterranean Coast. This probably surprises many people.

West Texas is a part of the Chihuahuan Desert, and much of the South Texas Plains area is part of the Tamaulipas Thornscrub. Both are semi-desert compared to the Mojave or Sahara deserts.

You're exaggerating. Not being true desert doesn't imply it being lush nor did I ever imply such a thing.

Yeah some people are pretty uninformed.

Another thing that I also get quite a lot is that Taiwan is in Southeast Asia and is a really poor tropical island, a la most of the rest of Southeast Asia, and that it doesn't get cold in winter, which are all pretty far from the reality.

I usually don't bother to correct them though. The Thailand thing yes, but not so much for this one as it takes more effort lol.

"Great Britain is the 3rd largest island in the world after Australia and Greenland."

Wrong!

New Guinea, Borneo, Madagascar, Baffin Island, Sumatra, Honshu and Victoria Island are all larger.

New Guinea and Borneo are even more than 3x larger than Great Britain.

If you go only by population Great Britain is 3rd after Java and Honshu.
