Paseo de la Reforma in Mexico City is pretty epic, if I may use that word. Gran Via in Madrid is disproportionately grandiose for Madrid and any direction you take off of it quickly tapers into something comparatively 'meh'. I've always thought that Schweppes advertisement to be pretty funny in a peculiar way.
I've never been, but what about Nevsky Prospekt in St. Petersburg, Russia?

I kinda thought it was Madrid's mini version of Times Square :-)
Galleria Vittorio Emanuele (I know it's more of an indoor shopping arcade than an avenue, but it serves the same functions as described in the OP).
Regent Street
Fifth Avenue
