Mongolia was at the height of it's power in the 1200s. The 1800s where cut up between England and Japan. 1900s between the nazis in the first half and soviets in the second. after 9/11 and the iraq war the US lost its soft power and all but in practice gave up its title to china meaning the 21st century is theirs. that leaves the 1990s for US leadership in the world. Yup, we had a total of one decade. Still, it was pretty great one at that.
In what universe was Japan a leading country in the 1800's?!
I guess you won't give an answer going by your "most powerful person" thread...
No thanks, really. But I don't any new surprises coming up. The US, EU, China, India. That's about it.
Do you really think that the EU will be as powerful as it is today in the future? I mean with Brexit and the Italian bank crisis I don't see the EU being as much of a powerhouse. I do however see specific countries like Germany still being very powerful/relevant.

Economically, yeah, Europe will remain a leader. The EU economy is just barely smaller than that of the U.S. Even a stagnant Europe will remain extremely prosperous.
Militarily, no. Europe is now basically a military vassal of the U.S. Europe needs to spend MUCH more on the military, or it loses the right to assume any sort of leadership.
China and India for the future because of just sheer numbers of people if the top 10% of China is even half as wealthy as the U.S top 10^% that is 150,000,000 very wealthy people bigger than most countries. Even with 1/5 of China becoming middle class that itself is bigger than the U.S middle class. The potential is there, one of the reasons the U.S is dominant is because it is by far the largest developed nation. The only other 100 million + developed nations are Japan and Germany.

I understand that an Anglophone and USA having a special with the UK you tend to vastly overestimate the influence and power of the UK. The EU will continue, and will lose hardly anything with the Brexit.

While there is some merit to your claim, the UK, France and Germany are all in the global top 10 military spenders. Italy is 13th.
