Forget what that Wikipedia article says, foreign citizens can only join the Australian military is pretty rare or exceptional circumstance. You need to have pretty extensive and deep experience and skills in an acutely in demand field. If someone hopes to fast track Australian citizenship by joining the army as an infantry private, they had better reconsider their options.
Also citizens of allied nations who are willing to obtain an Australian citizenship and have military experience can also join the Australian armed forces.
The Foreign Legion a branch of the French Army accepts recruit applications from anywhere in the world. If accepted and after three years service one is able to apply for citizenship.
The US actually drafted green card holders during the Vietnan war.
Yup and a lot of them were Canadians. Some actually volunteered. I believe there is still an active Canadian Veterans of Vietnam group up North. And when I was in the Marine Corps during Vietnam I met a former British Army guy who said he volunteered as a UK citizen to join the Marines.
Person with permanent adress in Slovakia can officialy serve in our army. But i don´t think it will be big help in getting citizenship. And from my personal experience, if you are citizen of Slovakia and serve in army of other country, then you are asking for some serious troubles after return home.
