My family moved out of my home country when I was a child. I only returned as a adult. So I lived approx. 18 years outside my "home" country and during that time only visited 3 times (and the first of those visits was after 5 years approx.).
One month away from home is the most I can ever tolerate on any given trip. Usually by the time 2 weeks has gone by I'm already champing at the bit to get back home. After a month away from home, when I get back home I'm always ready to get down on my knees and kiss the ground when I set foot on it.
I once spent 3 months in the US. I really enjoyed my time there, but towards the end, I was really missing the UK - even the colder weather! It was just too hot for me in the US, and I wasn't used to it.
But I also missed other British things such as the food and drink, the shops, British tv, British music, etc. I don't think I could live anywhere else, apart from the UK.
I'm American and I lived in Japan for 1 year, Thailand for 10 months and I've been in Malaysia for about seven non continuous years (2006-2010 and 2014-present). I try to get home every 1 to 1.5 years.
