Exclamation What is Macedonia?

As depicted in the movie "Alexander", the Macedonians were a people of northern Greece that united the city-states of all of Greece and spread Hellenism (greek culture) from Pakistan to northern Africa.
Many of the arts and sciences where then past on to these people which occupy the same lands to this day.
There are many references and artifacts that indicate that Macedonians wrote in Greek, believed in the Gods and where an individual city state just as Sparta, Thebes and Athens were.

Today, Macedonia is a region of the modern state of Greece.
Geographically it spreads into some parts of ex-Yugoslavia and a bit of western Bulgaria.
People that had settled these northern parts of this geographic area during the Byzantine and Ottoman times where of slavic and albanian descent.
Today, these people want to be called "Macedonians" and claim the ancestry and the history of the old glory of Greece.
A modern nation of FYROM is in conflict with Greece in the use of the name of Macedonia. Greeks fear expansionism claims by FYROM (former Yugoslavic Repulbic of Macedonia) and refuse to call this newly founded tiny nation "Macedonia". We know that the Balkans are very volatile up to this date. Kosovo is a good example of this. Albanians claim 3/4 of FYROM as their own so it can be part of greater Albania.
This is another conflict that if not resolved can threaten the NATO alliance and the EU itself..............

I was in Greek Macedonia and the "Macedonia is Greece" signs are prominent. That was back in 1994.

Rillifane is on a distinguished road
Thousands of years after Alexander's death the Greeks who scorned him as a barbarian, backstabbed and betrayed him, want to claim him as a Greek. Rather ironic isn't it?

The Greeks always talked bad about each other.
There was rarely peace among them. Sparta vs Athens vs Thebes vs Macedonia. Alexander's and Macedonia's greekness has been proven by the scientific community over and over again.
It is only some ethno-centric hot heads that like to stir up *hit in the Balkans that claim otherwise

There is a province of Belgium called Luxembourg, and then there is the country of Luxembourg right next door. The Belgians don't seem to fear Luxembourgian expansionism, nor do they demand that Luxembourg change its name.

The Greeks need to get a grip and stop berating their neighbors.

lesson from history: past events at certain parts of the world do not provide the same outcome at other parts.
The Balkans are a whole different story, and Greece is the most stable country of the all. Others need to get a grip and not interfere on other country's internal affairs and sovereignty

If the Greeks are the most stable country in the Balkansl, then they should be mature enough to accept that the Macedonians chose to give their country the same name it had as a province of the former Yugoslavia.

I do certainly agree that others need to get a grip and not interfere in other country's internal affairs. In this case that would mean the Greeks need to stop interfering in the Macedonians internal decision to name their country Macedonia and stop harassing them when they've exercised their sovereign right to do so.

Need to look into history. The new "country" is made up of slavs.
As the first president of FYROM stated, we are not Greeks but slavs and not descendants of Alexander.
If FYROM'S constant propaganda using ancient greek symbols, copying of history and even claiming parts of Greece would stop, then you would have the situation resolved. FYROM is way out of hand and needs to be put into place.
What we have here is other powers behind the scene stiring up BS, and using FYROM as pions.
