Similarities between MADAGASCAR with Indonesia/Malaysia...cultural, ethnicity, etc.

I don't imagine many people have been to both locations, and probably few would know anything about Madagascar and its cultural and ethnicity. BUT, I wanted to open up the discussion anyways, because I am hoping to get some Madagascar discussion going.

Madagascar is partially populated by people whose origins go back to Borneo...and partially by those on the continental part of Africa...and partially mixed as well.

Viewing various sources....it seems that Madagascar people have a stronger affinity for RICE, like a very standard three times a day, which is very similar to much of Pacific Asia. The Malagasy language also has origins back to Borneo. Some of the people look a bit Indonesian as well, and some mixed, etc.

Anyways, what other similarities (or differences) have you heard of with Madagascar with this Asian connection?

are there many Indonesians who visit Madagascar? Is there much of a flight connection? Is there a demand or interest on the Madagascar side?

I'd think there SHOULD be...but it's something I just don't know about the reality.

Madagascar is an extremely poor place. Indonesia is extremely wealthy in comparison.

I'm planning to visit Madagascar, and it certainly seems like the case as I read about it...

It's not a country many visit, apart from cruise ships stopping off at Noisy Be. But I have known a few French people that travelled the island, or part of. One couple appeared to cover a lot of territory and said it was tough going, but worth it.

I have often thought of travelling there, but yet to make it. Not sure if doing it solo is not very advisable and group tour not really my thing, but if needs must, I suppose.

I knew a Malagasy girl in London. She looked very Malay to my eyes, but never heard her speak her native language as we usually spoke in French. Shame she moved to France and talk of visiting her former homeland evaporated with the move.

A very interesting and a bit less unusual country to visit. I wonder the method of travel the OP has in mind, if does make it there?

I was able to visit MADAGASCAR. It is surprisingly expensive with very little to offer in terms of infrastructure. Even in the main city, there are so few streetlights. With so little infrastructure, you are at the mercy of taxi drivers who insist on european prices to take you short distances.

I only made it the capital, but I met many other travelers who were taking 'taxis' across the country....much cheaper than city taxis...but still a hefty amount of money, and very time-consuming.

Internal flights exist, but going from one city to another in Madagascar, and you are paying $600-700 or so...which is about the same price as going from Madagascar to Europe.

Yup Malagasy / Madagascar has tightly relationship with Indonesia be it culture and language. they are the descendants of South Borneo precisely from ethnic Banjar /Malay some them look like Indonesians especially Merina People
Btw , I see the people of Micronesia especially Guam Or Chamorro they similiar Indonesians ,whether we come from one descendant
