Thats why I like to be known as Scottish rather than British. People normally associate British with being English. It's bizarre.

I'd have to go with Japan. Many European countries are very advanced as well. When I was in Germany, the technology there was years ahead of the United States.

Look at the list below and ask yourself.
Canon vs. Sony digital cameras
Bose speakers vs. Kabuki

Canon is Japanese and I wouldn't put anything Bose in my dog house.
To be fair U.S. citizens come from all over the world and have invented lots of the technology that Japan improves on. We have had some great inventors who came to the U.S. from Scotland and many other countries.
I am just glad that they chose to come here to advance technology.
My family came here from Scotland and most everybody heres family came from somewhere else.
I do think old American made stuff lasted much longer than a lot of the crap made today, I have old American made radios that are older than me and still work, I am almost 50 so that is pretty good. I also have a lot of Chinese made stuff that stops working after a year or two. I had my first American made microwave for 30 years and my next one made in China was dead in 2 years. I think too much stuff inot designed to last and that is a waste of money and resources.

Japan. It would probably say anywhere that Japan is the most technologically advanced country in the world.
USA would defiantly be second most technologically advanced country in the world.

I lived in Europe in the 60's and 70's for several years, I have not been back so I am not sure what the average house has or uses. What did you see that was more advanced that is not available in the U.S.?
I like high tech myself and have an automated house with Touchscreens to control many of the homes functions.

If Japan never existed of for that matter the rest of the asia, the world would not have seen much of any difference, but if US or Europe had never existed the world would still be at cave age. I am not exagerating here, think about vitualy all the fundemental laws of sciences as well the discoveries and inventions were done in US and Europe, you dont have to take my word for it do the research. I give credit to Japanese though for their great manufaturing and engineering skills and refining things, not for paving the way to modern world.

True but in the year 2009 japan is the most innovative country not the US. If youre talking about in history USA is #1 with china and other european countries behind it. If we're talking the modern era japan has more patents per capita than the USA and england (its not #1 for patens per capita though) and is ranked #1 for global innovation index.
out of the top 10 companies in the world for innovation/patents 5 are japanese. Out of the top 20, 10 are japanese.
Your comment is flawed though about "rest of asia" since without china the european industrial revolution would have never happened.
Also many american inventions arent even by americans! For example

Shunpei Yamazaki has 1,432 patents and is the largest patent holder in US history……..and he lives in Japan. Yes, it seems to be true: The top individual holder of U.S. patents is based at Tokyo tech research firm Semiconductor Energy Laboratory. For decades, the popular assumption has been that Thomas Edison is the all-time patent king with 1,093 patents. Yamazaki blows away Edison, and he is still inventing and getting patents.

I would have to go with Japan for everyday civilian technology. No doubt, Japan is amazing when it comes to technology, mending with the public.
On the other hand, I would place the US, at the top when it comes to military tech. Some military tech that at one time was develop by the US Military, such as GPS, Nightvision, and the Internet, have been put into civilian use.
