Anybody here visited the United States and couldn't wait to get back home?

Why would any visitor hate this country?

Too hot, too cold, too rural, too urban, unfriendly people, people who are too friendly...

Even if I was intrigued by it because of TV and movies I was not super impressed by the US as a child in my trips there. We went a few times with my parents but for some reason they always missed the nicer places it seems!

As an adult I love travelling in the US. Though the low Canadian dollar will keep me away this summer. It is not about Trump. I don't care about that.

There isn't anything about USA that I hate and only 2 or 3 cities I've visited that I didn't like and was glad to see recede behind me in the rear-view mirror. I've enjoyed visiting USA several times over several decades but only twice that I couldn't wait to get home. It wasn't because of the country or cities or the people.

It was because of unexpected health problems due to local seasonal climate at two places I visited. I became very ill because of the stormy heat and humidity in rural south Missouri in summer and the dry heat and static electricity in south Arizona during a particularly warm winter. My own fault for going at the wrong time of year for me. I can't tolerate heat. I had to cut my visits short and couldn't wait to get home when I was sick, and both those times when I did get home it was raining and blessedly cool when I arrived and I got down on my knees and kissed the cool, wet ground. Oh, what a relief that was!

I spent a month in Morgan City, LA during the summer and couldn't wait to get home.

I loved the US on my first visit but after moving there later on a green card I found it to be a huge disappointment. Mostly things like the terrible economy, the high costs of living, the bad food quality, the sprawl and car dependence, the bad housing quality, the health care system, and the many impoverished parts I visited. For me Europe provides a better quality of life and a higher standard of living.

The US is vast, so people might prefer one part to another, but I think the word hate is a bit strong, indeed it's all down to personal preference.

Some people don't like cities and probably wouldn't enjoy NYC, but would enjoy the vast beautiful rural areas and National Parks and vice versa.

Geographically America is stunning, and I don't think anyone can argue with that.

I love it.

But I know people who hate it. A friend of mine did his first journey to the US during his student exchange to a rather conservative family somewhere around Amarillo, TX. He returned with the perception that all Americans are gun-loving bible-fanatists and doesn't want to go back. Well, some people just don't know what they miss out.
