I've been all over south/North America as well as Europe and some parts of Asia. The one place that completely took my breath away was the big island in the state of Hawaii. Never have I seen such pristine, untouched beauty. What about y'all?
One place that totally surprised me was Brno, Slovakia. I didn't even mean to go there - we were actually driving from Prague to Bratislava but we got snowed in and stranded in Brno for four days. Boy am I ever glad that happened! This was right after the Berlin Wall went down and Eastern Europe opened up to Westerners.
It was a few days before Christmas and there was probably a foot of snow on the ground. I was wandering around the town square one evening at sunset. The snow was sparkling pink and orange as the sun sank. Just as the sun dipped below the city horizon, which was pierced by cathedral spires, I heard soft a capella singing in the distance. Slowly walking into the square toward a small stage I saw young girls and young women in traditional dress, each carrying a candle and singing Czech folk songs about Christmas.
They stood there and sang as the sky turned from orange to purple to black, their faces and headdresses illuminated by candle light. Everyone else in the square was silent.
It was one of the most beautiful sights I've ever seen.
