the Philippines national anthem is good especially if it is played by a band. its a marching song so the beat is fast.

I think the last stanza refers to Jose Rizal and all those patriots/heroes who offered their lives for its independence. just sad that the politicians that followed sold out or think only of themselves

I disagree - she sang our beautiful national anthem very well. One of the best renditions, in my opinion, of a great song.

That being said, I wish our national anthem was "America the Beautiful" but it's apparently not militaristic enough. Most national anthems seem very militaristic to me.

I love "America the Beautiful" and I remember after 9/11 people standing in public singing this - at church, at the mall, you name it - with tears streaming down their faces (and mine too).

Nobody does it quite like Ray Charles!

Well, I suppose she didn't screech the anthem, like she did with some of her songs.

National anthems are rubbish, as this thread has shown... all except the Welsh one, of course.

I hear perfectly formed notes. If you dislike her, that's fine, but just where (what phrase) in this rendition do you hear even one screech?

screech (skrēch)

1. A high-pitched, strident cry.
2. A sound suggestive of this cry: the screech of train brakes.
v. screeched, screech·ing, screech·es
v.tr.
To utter in a screech or high-pitched voice.

1. To cry out in a high-pitched, strident voice.
2. To make a sound suggestive of a screech: Tires screeched on the wet pavement.

Screeching - definition of screeching by The Free Dictionary
I'm not saying that she screeched the US National Anthem. But she did do it during some of her songs, which is not my cup of tea.

I didn't dislike the woman though... it was sad when she died.

For those who've come across the seas
We've boundless plains to share;
With courage let us all combine
To advance Australia fair.
In joyful strains then let us sing
