I don't think that's a good thing. It leads to a lot of isolated cities, and also leads to regions being ignored by the government because of their low population. I think if South America had double the population it would be much better off

Most of Western Europe is less developed than the US. Nobody wants to lower their quality of life, even if it's not that bad.
Cali is very suburban which is not sustainable for a lot of people. Everybody wants to have their own backyard pool there, everybody wants to grow high-irrigation fruit, everybody wants to have a big spacious car, etc. That is not a sustainable lifestyle. If LA and San Diego were more like NYC and Boston, there would be no water shortages there

Massive errors going on of extreme destitution is always troubling. Such an overly melancholic tragic case for Nigeria, DR Congo, Pakistan, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Uganda. These parents are really verging onto such frivolous endeavors. Is there virtually any hope for their offspring’s progress? Close to no redeeming features with each national story. Immigration process is another angle to consider. Aren’t these citizens wanting to leave for a better pasture elsewhere? Please avoid older age calamities when dealing with that much poverty in the middle of nowhere.

As of 1 July 2017 the UN estimates that just 6 countries have 49.72% of the world's population

China
India
United States
Indonesia
Brazil
Pakistan

The fact that the population growth rate of these Sub-Sahara African countries is astronomical is not exactly news.
Federal Republic of Nigeria
Democratic Republic of the Congo
Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia
United Republic of Tanzania
Republic of Uganda

Republic of India
Federal Republic of Nigeria
Democratic Republic of the Congo
Islamic Republic of Pakistan
Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia
United Republic of Tanzania
United States of America
Republic of Uganda
Republic of Indonesia

Can't believe the U.S. is still no. 7 in population growth
According to the UN estimates from 2016 to 2017 9 countries comprised 50.32% of the world's population growth (41,913,283 out of 83,297,821).

1 Republic of India
2 China
3 Federal Republic of Nigeria
4 Islamic Republic of Pakistan
5 Republic of Indonesia
6 Democratic Republic of the Congo
7 Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia
8 United States of America
9 Egypt

At present day Tanzania is ranked #10 and Uganda is ranked #15 in absolute numbers of increase. Some smaller countries like Bahrain and Oman actually have much larger percentage increases.

So the big change is cumulative change from 2017 to 2050 is Uganda and Tanzania will replace China and Egypt on the list from 2016 to 2017.

It's kind of non-news.

The third world nations have a high birth rate. Many African nations have birth rates of 6-8 children. As health standards improve and fewer people die, the population momentum would cause a continued increase in population. Meanwhile, the birth rate will remain high or decline slowly.

Brazil left the Top 5 of the most populated countries.

The country was the 5th most populated country in 1990, 2000 and 2010.

This year, the population of Pakistan is 207.7 million while the population of Brazil is 207.3 million.

Now the Top 5 is China > India > United States > Indonesia > Pakistan. Brazil drops to the 6th position.

Taken from the Article in the Sun "India to overtake China as World's most Populated Country..."

They have estimates for the top 10 most populated countries for 2027 and 2050. A lot can happen between now and 2050, so it will be interesting to see what the totals will be 30 years from now.

Just look at the lists of the top 10 most populated countries from 40 years ago as an example. (Changes in the political landscape, such as no USSR anymore).

Population totals for 1980
1 China - 981 m
2 India - 687 m
3 USSR - 262 m
4 USA - 227 m
5 Indonesia - 148 m
6 Brazil - 121 m
7 Japan - 116 m
8 Bangladesh - 88 m
9 Pakistan - 82 m
10 Nigeria - 71 m
