According to The most visited cities around the world in 2017 - Business Insider, Bangkok is barely ahead of London, not even enough to be significant.

This is shaping up about as I expected it to. I generally agree with the Top 5 in voting as of now (New York City, London, Paris, Tokyo, Hong Kong, with Rome right there too). My Top 3 would be New York City, London and Tokyo with London being likely Number 1 in my opinion at least. However, Tokyo and Beijing are the two on this list I most want to visit (haven't yet been). Tokyo more for the city itself Beijing for the Wall/Forbidden City. Hong Kong is quite high as well though. I think if it had the cultural or historical area somewhat stronger, it would really be right there, as it arguably has the world's most stunning modern skyline (the world's most vertical city moniker gets tossed around), yet also is in contention for world's most stunning scenery based on amazing spots immediately around it. Would seem to be an array to the senses.

In fact, Chengdu has 10x more tea houses than either Beijing or Shanghai. Its Western-style bars and clubs are also among the best in China.
It is certainly not unknown in Australia and I know quite a few people who have been there. We were there in April and found it a really enjoyable city.

Paris, Prague, Vienna, Barcelona and to some extent Rome.

Didn't find NYC that impressive at all. Skyscrapers don't impress me as I have seen too many elsewhere. Los Angeles was a huge surprise, and not in the good way. San Francisco despite its big name, is so tiny and suburban feeling. London was kind of boring, aesthetically. HK is basically a dump with apparent horrible living standards.

My Bangkok trip was the most disappointing among all. What an ugly city.

I'm going to limit my response to only the cities that I've actually been to, which would be the following:

Paris
New York City
Washington DC
San Francisco
Los Angeles
Seoul
(I drove through Toronto once, but that doesn't count.)

My responses are listed in order with best being first listed, etc.

-Sheer Number of Attractions
New York, Paris, Seoul

-Getting Around/Transit
Seoul, Paris, San Francisco
(San Francisco's transit system is not the best of this bunch, but I rate them highly due to the sheer variety of the transit modes available there.)

-Climate
Paris, San Francisco, Los Angeles

-Natural Scenery/Surroundings
San Francisco, Seoul, Los Angeles

-Theme Park Type Places
Los Angeles, Seoul, Washington

-Sporting Events/Venues/Teams
New York, Los Angeles, Washington

-Safety
Seoul, Paris, San Francisco

-Walkability
New York, Washington, Seoul

-Uniqueness
Paris, New York, San Francisco

-Food Options
(I'm not a foodie, so I'm going to skip this one.)

-High Culture
Paris, New York, Seoul

-Historical Attractions
Paris, Washington, Seoul

-Shopping/Fashion
Seoul, Paris, New York

-Anything Else of Note
Friendliness/courtesy of the residents towards visitors:
Seoul, Washington, Los Angeles

Overall, my top three choices are Seoul, Paris, and New York, in that order.
