Um, they tried separating Vietnam into 2 countries, north and south, in 1954 after the defeat of the colonial French army there. Unfortunately, it didn't work, and only led to a long War that lasted over a decade and killed 58,000 Americans, about a million Vietnamese, tore American society apart, and poisoned the environment with Agent Orange and hidden land mines that are still killing and maiming people today.

Laos has a much sparser population than Vietnam, and only one major city, which is in the North. Don't know where they would put any potential Southern capital. Kind of the situation with Mozambique or Niger, I suppose.

Actually, Galicians supposedly speak a dialect like Portuguese. This is the cool, damp area of Spain. The birthplace of the late dictator for life, General Franco.

Many thousands of Indian and Pakistani soldiers have been killed in a perpetual ongoing war over mountainous Kashmir province (known as the home of the teenage girl and Nobel Laureate, Malala Yousufzai). I understand that half the province is basically Moslem, and the other half basically Hindu. (Someone please correct me if I'm wrong). But both India nor Pakistan are stubborn and refuse to compromise and split it in two.
