Here in the U.S., we have to pay income tax, sales tax and property tax. Does your country have any kind of taxes?

Not only that but as a US citizen, your worldwide income is subject to U.S. income tax, regardless of where you reside.

Income Tax and National Insutance are taken from your wages in the UK.

Property is taxed by the Local Authority and is called 'Council Tax' or rates.

Value Added Tax (VAT) is charged in relation to many goods and sevices but not all.

Other taxes include;

Brazil is well-known by being a hell of taxes and rules. We have taxes for every single thing, and also taxes over taxes. Almost 40% of what a brazilian earns goes to the government in form of taxes. They are identified on acronyms: IR, IPTU, IPVA, IPI, IOF, ICMS, PIS/COFINS, CIDE, CSLL, and many others. With all of this, the public service and infrastructure sucks. This is one of the barriers for the development of Brazil.

It's not too horrible if your taxes are used for things citizens can enjoy (education, healthcare, transportation, parks and recreations, etc...), but it really sucks when they are mainly used to create and maintain new wars...

To a certain extent. I agree with you, that spending taxes on social spaces to improve the well-being of society is an imperative. However, spending money on the MIC has its perks as well. When most people think of wars, they only look at the end result, which of course has involves the use of firepower to cause death and destruction. But they ignore the investment that goes into developing new technologies. Sure many of them are for an ulterior motive, but they trickle down to society over time.

Here are a few things we have nowadays thanks to spending:

-GPS
-Satellites
-Commercial drones
-The TCP/IP standard that defines internet communication
