indeed the world is increasingly moving away from... London as the mother city

This is totally true^ by the way.
Firstly since when was the UK a super power and secondly yes the world is looking to new areas and markets, and London is reaping the rewards with massive investment and major Chinese and other international companies opening offices here.

As for the mother city it's an historical term going back to days of Empire, and the move from Empire to Commonwealth occurred just after WW2, however we retain strong links with many of these nations, indeed the Commonwealth Games will be held in a few weeks time.

The new world that is emerging is one where the old cold war superpowers are being replaced by new economic powers including some Commonwealth nations many of which are keen to trade with and invest in London.

The Commonwealth

I didn't comment on that, I presented my photos without comment. If you're referring to BigCityDreamer, he said NYC was the last word for the US, and comparable to London or Paris.

Stop quote mining his post and read it as it was intended ... as two separate statements.

(1) The world is moving away from the old superpower model with many emerging economies.
(2) Many of the emerging economies are formerly those of the British empire so they will be more inclined than average to trade with London.

It's not hard.

Whatever eases the pain continue telling yourself that hun.

But 1+1 does not equal 3.

You can't be losing power and gaining power at the same time. Either you are increasing or decreasing.

And London is really not increasing so long as places like India and Australia look elsewhere for trade which is definitely the case.

In fact, I would say the rise of China has stolen London's thunder while New York's influence is really unphased.

It should also be noted that Britain and indeed London has maintained very close links with Hong Kong and there is a large community from Hong Kong in London.

Furthermore, you keep bringing up Hong Kong, which is now really a distant third behind Beijing and Shanghai as far as economic power and momentum in China.

So having a warm and fuzzy relationship with a former colony is very unimpressive since that former colony is totally limp in the country that owns it.

Which really was a stroke of genius on the part of Beijing. Developing the rest of the country really relegated HK to regional power status in the country.

China's new rich don't even want to live in Hong Kong and they run their companies quite happily from the mainland-that is SO interesting all things considered.
