What do you mean by the PCA is meaningless? Are you suggesting that climate change is not a real problem the Earth faces or that you don't believe the PCA will lead to meaningful change? At this stage, the US is the only country not part of it. Even nations that disagree on most issues are aligned on this thing.

I don't see the drop in tourist revenue.

Do you expect citizens from these countries to spend money vacationing in the U.S?

And who's going to buy the coal? Not China, they've moved away from coal! They're closing down their coal mines, any number of nuclear reactors sprouting up all over China, along with wind power, solar power.

The countries in the travel ban are mostly poor and very, very few tourists come from them. It has more of an effect on immigration than tourism, far and away.

Although there certainly are people from other nations who say that now they won't travel to the US in protest of the ban or solidarity with the countries on the list, I'd bet this is mostly anecdotal and few of them has planned to come to the US anyway.

Perhaps the numbers have come down because of trump in general, and a few recent mass shootings (I honestly don't know), but the travel ban is of little consequence to tourism.

Mass shooting for sure. The Chinese social media talks a lot about it recently, and I am sure many hesitate about visiting US due to this. It is not rational, but people are generally not rational.

As to Trump, I don't think people (maybe except some far left feminists) stop visiting a country because they don't like the president. Tourists do not care.

Trump is surprisingly popular in China. The Chinese in general detest political-correctness and like Trump's big mouth. They take it as honesty and unpolitician.

And the Chinese media as well as the people appreciate the fact that the US president for once stops preaching other countries about freedom, democracy and human rights and focuses just on business. The traditional western media seems to be upset about it as usual.

Trump in China is mostly a propaganda triumph for the Communist Party.

You see, everything in China revolves around maintaining the Communist Party's sense of stability, and increasingly, the cult of personality surround President Xi Jinping. Xi just finished the 19th Communist Party Congress, a pivotal moment in his career because he managed to single-handedly amass enough power in his hands unseen since the days of Mao and Deng. We aren't talking about a group of soviet-style bureaucrats sharing power like before, but power amassed in the hands of one man and one man only.

In light of that, Trump's visit merely 1 week after the conclusion of the 19th Party Congress only has one purpose for China - to reinforce the infallible image of China's new supreme leader President Xi Jinping. In Chinese media, Xi is displayed as the gracious host of a rising superpower, while Trump a "somewhat erratic leader of a declining country" (exact translated words from Global Times and People's Daily - Communist Party's mouthpiece newspapers).

In China, everything is about optics, and the optics send a crystal clear message on the front page of the People's Daily (below) - Communist Party's flagship newspaper - in the center is Xi's imposing image as the "Core Leader" and at the top right corner is a small paragraph which states (in much smaller font): "American President Trump Phones Xi, Congratulates Xi's Elevation to Supreme Secretary of the Communist Party"

On Tuesday, ADM went up exactly 41 basis points, I sold near the top. That was a good deal.

Now it's down by around 100 bps, so could buy it back for much cheaper. Perhaps even a better deal.

Thanks, Don.
