It's hard to believe that the warmest month in San Francisco has a daily mean of only 62ºF/17ºC. I always imagine at least a 70ºF/21ºC daily mean. The city basically don't have a real summer.

I was just going to mention San Francisco. Its climate doesn't fit with the image people have of California - yes I know it's in the central-northern part of the state.
Of course, many areas fairly close to SF have the more stereotypical California weather.

Yes, it's very different.
By the other hand i can think about Portland, Oregon. The city gives me a feeling of cool weather, cloudy sky, hot coffee, and that's true during most of the year. But then in the summer the average high reach 80ºF/27ºC, highs can go up to 107ºF/42ºC.
It's hard to imagine too. The city looks like it should have an average high around only 22, 23ºC in the summer.
I disagree. I don't think Auckland really suits it's climate. It feels like quite a coastal city and should therefore be a lot warmer and more tropical feeling. Auckland doesn't feel like it should be 16C and raining for most of the winter

Here are two of my favorite cities where climate is almost a dealbreaker for me:
San Francisco- It's just too cool/cold most of the time. I was there this past July and it was foggy and cool on the 4th. You couldn't even see the fireworks.
St. Petersburg, Russia- Incredibly dreary, damp, and cold in the winter. The White Nights make up a little for it but summer is too short and wet compared even to Moscow, which can experience gorgeous summers.
BTW-I'd rather have NYC winters than NYC summers. I was also there this past summer and it was nasty humid.
