USA is Canada’s Paraguay.

USA is perceved as being cheaper.

Gas is ...and some clothing. Electronics too.

However once you factor in exchange rate, time and money to get there...
better to buy at home in Canada....wait for sales

Cigarettes are taxed very little in Virginia and North Carolina. There is a famous cigarette store on highway/motorway I-95 in North Carolina. But the laws in Northern states, allow travelers to bring a few cartons at a time, into Northern states.

Medical tourism has become a big business. Americans cross the border/ frontier into Mexico for dental care at very low cost. Americans also travel to many Asian cities for major surgery, by skilled doctors, at a small fraction of the cost. The disadvantage to doing this, is if medical complications occur, the patient cannot sue for damages. Also, the patient cannot easily return to see his doctor for later follow-up care.

I heard that a lot of Russians in south eastern Russia go shopping in north east China for cheaper goods, particulary with the twin cities of Blagoveshchensk and Heihe on opposite sides of the Amur river. There is no bridge however, but the river freezes over in the winter and there is a hovercraft that acts as a ferry as well, I think. And I think a pedestrian bridge is being built too.

Northern Brazilians go to Guyana (Lethen).
Center westerner Brazilians go to Bolívia
Gauchos to Uruguay

Paraguay is the most knowing because it is close of the biggest market, São Paulo, and we don't go there just for shopping but Cataratas falls and Itaipu are big touristic destination in our side of the border.
Just for shopping is cheaper go to Miami, I am talking about tourists because many people buy in Paraguay for resale in Brazilians cities, they are ''professionals''.

But you can't do that if you don't even own a car.

From New York to New Jersey for clothing with no state sales tax added on.

Years ago, the Swiss to Italy in the wake of periodic currency devaluations, CHF/ITL. Don't exclude a return to those days.

Good Luck!
