Some people are friendly, some people aren’t. It’s like anywhere. Hard to generalize about a diverse country of 320 million people.
Tourists are usually going to come across as friendly because otherwise why are you traveling in a foreign country if it’s not to open up to new ideas and people?
America is a very polite society. But I lived in the mid-west and they are over friendly...it is not genuine. But yes, in general Americans are very friendly people. They can exaggerate a bit especially in the mid-west. Smiling is a way of saying Hi.

Funny.. I'm from Wyoming (some call it mid-west) with family in Minnesota, I wouldn't have said that area is exaggerated friendliness. I'm living in the SE though and feel it is all 100% fake.
Anyway, I've run into friendly people, fake people and grumpy people roughly equally everywhere I go.

The same can be said about the South. Meanwhile people in the Northeast tend to be blunt so that may give off the rude vibe, while people on the West Coast just aren't very friendly.
If you’re looking to travel in America, there’s no doubt you’re going to meet a lot of friendly people. The hospitality industry in America is top notch. Customer service is also generally pretty good. You get a lot for your money, IMO.
Nobody I know who traveled in America didn’t enjoy it or think it wasn’t worth it. But as we all know living isn’t the same thing as visiting.
Americans seem really nice people, but is any of it genuine or just surface deep??? please comment?
Yeah, I'd say you're just skimming the surface. Genuine nice people is not a village. And it seems to me that for most people it's like the putting on and and taking off of a mask.
Most Americans live in suburbs or even rural areas. You cannot compare them with real city dwellers in Asia or Europe.
If you go to NYC you probably won't find many "friendly" people.
