Just returned from Europe and Barcelona was the highlight. I've been to plenty of cities around the world, but no other city is as good as Barcelona.

Great weather year round, no major disasters like earthquakes, hurricanes, tornados, floods...the humidity is at the comfortable level too.

Infrastructure is among the best. The city is well connected by air, train, and highways. Public transportation couldn't be better to get around the city.

Not as safe as Tokyo, but I never felt really unsafe. I guess you will be fine if you apply common sense.

Cost of living is reasonable.

People are friendly, I mean, genuinely friendly.

The size of the city is optimal. It's a large city but not that large, which means, the traffic congestion is even less severe than Austin, TX but Barcelona has all the amenities you'd expect from a big city.

Tons of recreational opportunities - football matches, beaches, mountains, nightlife...

When I think about a 5 Tool City (like a 5 tool baseball player), I think of:
-Climate (55-85 Range)
-Scenery (Topography and Beaches)
-History/Culture (Loads of Both)
-Livability (Safety, Walkability, etc)
-Cosmpolitanism (Opportunity, Importance, Access)

Add in the fact it’s relatively affordable, has unique charms like Gaudi, great food scene and nightlife, and is a sporting, and shopping hub?

It’s difficult to find a more universally crowd pleasing city in this world. I had thought of Sydney as such and Sydney overall might be more worldly, comfortable climate, safer, etc, but it also falls short on a number of levels.

That said, there are so many ways you can slice a World’s Best City debate. I had generally said Copenhagen was the most visitor friendly city in the world, or Cappadocia the most unique set up, or Beijing London and Mexico City as the three by sheer number, quality and diversity (old, new, etc) of attractions (generally being ancient and modern centerpieces of 3 of the world’s major cultural regions). So I’m not sure any one city could hold that title, though Barcelona is certainly a great one. I don’t think there’s a better honeymoon city in the world, though I think HK is very under regarded in that sense and may surpass it.

I've been to Barcelona several times and for me whilst enjoyable is grossly overrated.

I prefer New York, London even Berlin and Rome. I suppose the weather and decent city beach is a plus but not pluses enough for me.

Well I haven't been to every city in the world so I can't really say. I have been to a lot of cities including Barcelona.

Although I enjoyed it, I don't think it was my favourite. I prefer Lyon over Barcelona and several other cities over Lyon. Depends on what I'm feeling on a particular day.

I'm city fickle.

It depends on your personal tastes. I think Portland, OR, Amsterdam, and Munich are the best cities in the world according to my own tastes. I've visited Barcelona but I had a bad taste in my mouth after being pickpocketed, and when I got to the police station, there were scores of others there reporting their being pickpocketed as well.

I have 2 friends who both lived in Barcelona at different times. Actually, they don’t know each other. They both say Barcelona is their favorites City.

I’ve only been to Italy in Europe and the small seaside cities were among my favorites.

I have visited Barcelona and it is one of my favorite cities in the world.

That said, here is a different perspective on it. I know some who lived there for about 9 months about 10 years ago. She didn't like it. She said the shower water in her apartment was often brown and there were numerous rats in the alley behind her apartment. Granted, I believe she was a student living on a low budget....

Interesting to hear some varied perspectives. I like the thought of Munich too. Personally, I think a city that combined elements of Munich and Barcelona would probably be my favorite city in the world, but that's just me. That's probably why Madrid is so high on my list for living (at least temporarily), as it is a combination in some ways of those two.

I have visited Barcelona several times and it is definitely within my Top 10 favorite cities, maybe even Top 5. I just wish I spoke some Spanish, which will definitely help elevate my experience more.

I was in Barcelona and Madrid in March; Barcelona was beautiful but was almost pick pocketed. Last 2 days were cold and rainy, so it’s not always perfect weather. Madrid was chilly as well.

I liked Barcelona more than Madrid.
