Yes Iím doing another South African comparison! Thereís something really interesting about the country and Iím really interested in visiting. As an African American from Atlanta I want to know which city is overall a better place to live. This should be a more fair comparison than the Mexico City one. (Yes I understand that South Africa has significant income disparity which leads to higher crime rates but I wouldnít be staying in townships though Iíd like to do volunteer work in some of them.)

Anyway on to the comparison part
- Public Transit
- Cost of Living (Housing mostly)
- Job Opportunities
- Shopping
- Nightlife
- Diversity
- Urban Environments
-Post Secondary Institutions

Just my own personal feeling, if an African-American likes that black/white dichotomy of the U.S., then South Africa is a good fit. Basically, South Africa has a rather large White South African population that still dominates the discussions on most issues. Granted there are significantly more Black South Africans...but racial discussions and racial issues are almost constantly at the forefront of discussions, politics, their talk radio, and everything else, all of the time. They are still struggling heavily with post-colonialism, and the apartheid era and everything else. That being said, as an American, you might enjoy that debate/discussion/talk that goes on all the time there.

Other countries in Africa have more of their own thing going on...which I personally think can be more refreshing.

As to the criteria. I think South Africa will make sense with a visit. Both have a lot of the same things...they are just different...it's hard to say which is better...as they are both 'a fruit' so to speak, but has a different taste, which is subject to strong personal opinion as to which is better in the categories.
