I think we need some clarification. Western world by what definition? Cultural, political or economic?

If we go by a geographical location, would Australia or Singapore be a part of it?

If we go by the GDP per capita, we could see Oman and Brunei among those Western countries?

If we consider salaries/living standards, we might need to include cities like Moscow or Shanghai, because they almost caught with other Western cities in this particular aspect.

So, I personally, don't think we can define a "Western world" as a set of countries.

Australasia is a term that includes Australia and New Zealand plus surrounding Islands, it is one of the devisions of Oceania, the others being Malenesia, Micronesia and Polynesia.

It depends on what you think of when you hear “western world”, I for one think of it being synonymous with Western Civilization this would be a cultural thing, with politics and economics being a side effect/symptom of the culture.

Eternal rest.
Western world doesn’t equal first world, it’s a cultural term first and foremost, similar to how there is an Islamic/Muslim world or an Eastern World.

"Western World" is a quick way to say NATO countries. "Western Sanction" is against Russia.

I believe any nation that speaks a European language (Romance, Germanic or Slavic) and has a Christian tradition is part of the Western world. That means all of Europe, the Americas and Australia. Western civilization is the civilization of European people’s.

The Cold War confuses what western civilization is and is not. When discussing the Cold War “the west” means the NATO powers. In this context Russia or the Soviet Union is not part of the west. However if we are talking about Western Civilization then Russia is absolutely part of it, their status as a European people makes their membership in western civilization undeniable.

Latin America is a largely Spanish based catholic society. Nothing more needs to be said, obviously part of Western Civilization.

True, but the term is much older than that dating back to the great schism of 1054 AD when the church broke apart into the catholic and orthodox churches. So in this context the west is defined by western Christianity and the east is defined by eastern Christianity.

Yes the great Schism also confuses the terms eastern and western. I will also add the East/west division of the Roman Empire. However Christian belief is itself a hallmark of Western Civilization as is the historical traditions of the Roman Empire. Greece and Rome are together the bedrock that western civilization is built upon. The division of the Roman Empire into east and west, Great Schism and the much later Cold War all confuse the idea of East and West but I believe Western Civilization encompasses all European cultures and those founded by Europeans. That includes not only Western Europeans but also Russians, all American nations and Australians.

If we are talking about the Church then Eastern Europe and Russia are Eastern. The same goes for the Cold War. But all European bases are all collectively part of western civilization in spite of those separate divisions among us. To a Chinese man all white European people’s are western, in fact I bet they would be surprised that we are debating this.
