Probably Latin America, Israel, South Africa & Japan are part of the western world too, also excluding Greece, Bulgaria, Cyprus and Romania. Most common and used definition of the west though:

I think Latin America, Israel, South Africa and Japan should be part of the west. Greece, Cyrpus, Bulgaria and Romania shouldn't.

Anyway, the west for most people:

In the end the "Western World" is whatever the most powerful Western nation wishes it to be based upon its own self interest.

Isn't it just except Russia? What makes Belarus and Ukraine to be excluded from the western world?

And why Chile and Argentina?

Japan is geographically and culturally an East Asian country. Have you ever been to Japan?

I think Poland, Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia, and Slovenia should be part of the west.

Well culturally Ukraine Belarus and Russia are pretty much the same, and Belarus is also politicaly aligned with Russia, though Ukraine is obviously politically aligned with the west, however it’s political and economic institutions are not on par with the west yet.

Western countries are countries whose dominant cultural institutions including language, laws, philosophies, and other customs stem from Europe (and its melding with near eastern religion), which has then spread through other parts of the world via colonialism.

This would include Europe (including eastern Europe) the Americas (though significant regions in Central and South America still have very strong indigenous culture), large parts of Oceania, chiefly Australia and NZ, South Africa, and Israel.

Japan and other parts of Asia have had some lasting superficial influence from the west, but are still decidedly East Asian in culture. Just because Japanese businessmen wear Western style business suits and Yamaha makes nice violins does not make Japan a Western culture. Likewise India, for all of its British influence, is not Western.

But then the question is who is white and who is not white? Armenians, Georgians, Azerbaijanis, Tatars, Persians, Turks, Arabs, North Africans, mixed race, mulattoes, mestizos, are they white, or something else? Some people consider them white, others don't.

Good map, except for the French Guiana. This is the Western World, definetly. Maybe Japan should be added here, but their culture is so different. Although they are very capitalists.
