Default Copenhagen & Denmark to Retire

Anyone from Denmark here?

My wife has always wanted to live in Copenhagen and we're ready to retire. Since I have dual citizenship and a European Union passport, we're wondering about cost of living, availability of stable rental housing, public transportation, and basic survival stuff, in Denmark.

Combined, we're an English teacher, poet, art-doll maker, artist, blues musician.

Is Copenhagen a good place socially for older people to retire?

I am from and in Denmark :-)
Well In denmark and in Copenhagne in particular the housing and living expenses are quite high.
public transportation is easy and accesable
Basic stuff...
i think it can be a bit hard to "start over", because a lot of danes are quite reserved. BUT i know there are a lot of places (maybe a bit outside copenhagen) where couples where their children have left the home maybe buy a smaller house where there are a lot of common lift between the couples in the houses. it might be one evening of eating together or something like that.
All danes speak english, but it can be hard to get close to people if you dont konw danish.
but there is a lot to do in copenhagen - art, culture, film and much more.
Please write again if you have any further questions.

I am German (from Hamburg - almost Denmark ) and my husband is from Copenhagen. We love the city and thought about moving there when we retire, but as c jessen writes: it is very expensive. Real estate prices have skyrocketed over the last years and the cost of living in general is high. Plus the language is a real tongue-breaker.

So if you don't mind the cost, the language and the weather - it might be your place.

Connie

Why not retire where you live now ?
Then visit every other place you always wanted to see.
Since you are retired, time is of no issue ????

I live in Malmö, just across the water from Copenhagen. Scandinavia is very expensive in general. The summers are short and the winter's long. There are wonderful things about life here, but it's something you'd have to weigh very seriously. I would definitively recommend that you study the language before moving.

As for the Stockholm suggestion, it is even colder and it's rather far away. It would not be my first pick for retirement, but that's just me...
