I thought that one characteristic of a Mediterranean climate was it is an ideal wine growing area - winter rains for growing and hot dry summers for harvesting? It works for California, the Mediterranean, Chile, Cape area of South Africa, New Zealand, Australia, Chile, etc.

But Vancouver and London?
I don't think 'wine' has anything to do with it?? The UK produces wine (I'm guessing parts of Canada does too?). Claiming that Vancouver has a Mediterranean climate is laughable! It has a climate far more similar to London or the south coast of the UK!!

To show just how ridiculous it is to claim that Vancouver has a Mediterranean climate! Both have a very similar climate (London is dryer and is slightly warmer).

Also Vancouver gets nearly 800mm of rain per year!!!!!!

NONE of these are Mediterranean!

All in an Oceanic climate.

You're forgetting that temperature is only half the story, there's also rainfall - do you consider Valencia and New Orleans to have the same climate?

They look very different to me -maybe you could randomly pair some up, and see if people find it difficult to tell them apart?

The Canadian areas are actually drier than most of the actual European Mediterranean regions.

Photos can be deceiving. Yes they look similar, after all a vineyard is a vineyard, but the Okanagan region has summer temperatures that on average are 10C hotter than southern England. The area is very dry with brown hills that resemble those in California.

There are over 80 varietals of grapes grown in that region as well. I couldn't find stats for southern England, perhaps someone can. This may also demonstrate the different climate and growing conditions.

I'm not saying it's a Med climate, since the winters there are too cold, but simply pointing out that the area is quite different than southern England.

Okie dokie. I wasn't aware that there were vinyards in England's arid semi-desert regions. Oh, wait .... does England have any arid semi-desert regions like those in the BC images I posted?

These are also vineyards in an Oceanic climate -It might just be me, but I'm not really seeing an English look here.

Is that somewhere in California? The hills look like California hills. Or the hills in the Columbia gorge. I know it's not in BC because BC has no plants like those sticking up in the forefront.

.
It's in the lower South Island of New Zealand (central Otago) - actually very much the opposite of a Mediterranean climate, as it has a summer rainfall peak.
