It'll be interesting to see if prices at petrol/gas stations fall given the drop in the world oil price lately. Our paper today said to expect 15 cent per litre drops soon. I'll believe it when I see it. They're quick to raise the price the second a world oil price increase is announced though. Despite the fact that the stuff in the tanks was bought at a lower price.
Prices here in Perth are around $1.53/litre these days.
Just to see how much the price has risen over the last 2-3 months: 1 gallon will now be $9,80 in The Netherlands (at least in the part where I live, the Randstad). Part of this ridiculous rise is made up of a tax rise but most is just plain oil prices rocketing through the sky!
Russia owns all the oil in the world, so it set ups the prices, LukOil is Russian owned, BP is UK, but they buy oil from Russia and then resell it , Recently they tried to resell it to Russia, BP CEO was beatern and thrown out of Russia, that will happen to everybody who threataens our econonmy !
No, we do not have it better. Most European countries have excellent public transportation in every city and do not rely on cars the same way Americans do. They also have fuel efficient cars that go a longer way than our cars. America runs on gas, literally. Our economy will be destroyed if it raised even another dollar. We are struggling as it is with current gas prices. The price of everything has gone up by 25% (food) because of transportation costs, along with a food supply shortage. If America had bike lanes on every road, excellent bus and train systems in every city and suburb, maybe, just maybe more people could bike to work or walk, or take the train. But we are a suburban country, and most of us would prefer not to get hit by a car while riding our bikes down dangerous roads.
When was the last time you were in Europe? Its true that there is public transport, its even true that the public transport is of a good standard. However, the prices to pay for public transport are also ridiculous high and most of the times, if you do the math, you will be paying more when traveling by public transport than by using your car.
I myself live in a small town in a busy part of The Netherlands and public transport is not really an option. Besides the price the bus only goes once per every two hours to the nearest big city, from where I have to catch a train or anything else. For work, that means I do have to use a car and am as much depending on it as people in the US.
Premium gas is around $3.97/gallon in S. Carolina, close to where I live in Charlotte.
