Santa Fe is up against the Sangre de Cristo mountains so it is both a mountain town and high desert town depending on where you live.

You can golf and ski on the same day!
You failed to mention this about Albuquerque:

Albuquerque crime rate

With a crime rate of 89 per one thousand residents, Albuquerque has one of the highest crime rates in America compared to all communities of all sizes - from the smallest towns to the very largest cities.

Interesting bit of trivia. Spain is the only country in Europe that has cities over 650 metres bar Pristina, Kosovo which just scrapes 650 but all of Europe's top 10 highest cities are in Spain lead by Burgos at nearly 1km high. Not quite the mile though.
