Gabon doesn't even border on DRC. I wonder if anyone mentioned that to Trump, who wouldn't have known it himself, nor even know how to look it up.

I presume the purpose is not to defend DRC from itself, but rather to establish a forward position, from which to defend America's interests in the region.

The US news media, as usual, is being careful to not ask, nor even wonder, where the troops will be housed in Gabon, or how much armaments will be taken along, or what kind of cooperation they are getting from the Gabonese forces. Or even whether Gabon has been told they are coming.
