I love mountains, so top 3 mountains cities/towns, village and it has to be nearby mountains(over 10.000 ft) so no Pittsburgh and the likes.
Innsbruck- next door to some of the most beautiful mountains in Austria, Italy, and Switzerland

Definitely Chongqing, China
One of the largest mountain cities in the world too. (Maybe no need to say one of).
For smaller towns, I pick Kangding lol
For international western cities, I pick Lugano.

I have experience in the Alps and the Andes.
I would second any city among Italy, Switzerland, France, Austria (also Monaco, Germany, Lichtenstein, Slovenia).
Would not go back to Andes.
I was wondering about any Himalayan cities, and so India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, China, Butan, Nepal.

Those two places seem a bit far from the Himalayas.
Can anyone point to any cities/town in Himalayas that a "westerner" might feel comfortable living in?

I don't know many cities near mountains, so my opinion would be biased, but I visited Lucerne, in Switzerland, and I found it absolutely lovely. I would go back there as many times as I could.
