So in honor of the current popular thread asking what is 3rd. I figured I'd do a poll with some countries that are arguably 3rd world. Some of these countries where mentioned in that thread. This is based on the modern definition of 3rd world not the cold war era definition.

Every single country you named is hits world although some are very close to changing that or on the right path while others are more in a hopeless or long term situation.

China and the former socialist states of Europe, I still put in the “second world”. All of the rest is third world.

All of the above are 3rd world countries.

The only two countries debatable are Chile and Greece.

All the above except China, Argentina, South Africa, Armenia, Iran and Mongolia. I'd say about 60% of the world classifies as 3rd world. There's a reason people from those countries are leaving them to come to Europe, America and Australia in droves.

I see your location is Sao Paulo, so as someone in South America, what is your view on how Chile, Colombia, and Argentina are still third world? I debated on Brazil because of the terrible crime in many major cities still, and Peru I'd put on the same level as Brazil. But for me, Chile and Mexico are solidly second world, with Colombia and Argentina being at the lower end of second world but not third world.

Third world is outdated since it was used during the Cold War.

But if you’re using first second and third world in economic terms, I’d say most of Latin America is second world.

In fact, compared to the rest of the world, the Dominican Republic, Peru, Colombia, and Mexico are upper middle income countries.

They're all third world. As a traveler, I consider Thitd World to any country in which I can easily find a decent hotel, a nutritious meal and public transportation for less than half the price of the US and most First World countries.

Zimbabwe is actually quite pricey, so not a third world country in your dictionary.
