Many of the Chinese Americans I know are choosing not to go to china this year, and if they are its a remote place.
The city is quite modern, although I can already tell you what it's going to be like.
The Chinese media is censored, so some of the Chinese people are oblivious to the hatred they're facing.
I've heard that China is going to shut down factories for a month or so before the Games to let the air clear - it's easy to do when you're Communist! We will be with a group that is protected like Fort Knox. When we were in Athens for the Olympics, the security was unbelieveably tight. They would stop our bus outside of the resort and bring dogs in and have bomb squads search the entire bus before being allowed into the resort. Even around the pool were Hellenic Coast Guards with Uzi's. I expect China to be even tighter.

I lived in Beijing from '85 to '87 and we use to joke that just breathing the air in a day's time was the equivalent to smoking a pack of ciggs a day. Perhaps things are better there now. But can only imagine what that air will do to the athletes.
