Oh, now we know:

Many analysts believe that Gaza is being destroyed and wiped out right now to make way for the construction of this canal, which would bring in billions of dollars a year for Israel (and grant Israel control over its access).
This canal would give the U.S. and Israel control over a key chokepoint in the world for military ships, grain exports, energy and other commodities.

If that were the case, why did it only begin after Oct. 7? No, we do NOT know until we know the full story from the point of view of BOTH sides. Unless we already want to believe the worst. And a Wikipedia post! Middle East Monitor? Are they a neutral source? Disappointed on many counts, elnina.

Elnina, thank you for the links. Informative. Now we know indeed.

Seems more legit than many other news sources.

So, what do we do at MEMO?
We provide a focused and comprehensive coverage of Palestine, and its regional neighbours
We do so by gathering news through our extensive networks of partner organisations and correspondents on the ground
Not only do our readers enjoy up-to-date reporting, through our network of contributors, we also publish carefully reasoned commentaries rooted in factual evidence
We are also an essential point of reference for journalists, researchers, human rights organisations and NGOs
Here at MEMO, we recognise that official policy is often informed and defined by the nature of media coverage. As such, we regularly interface with politicians, editors, lobby groups and various other stakeholders to facilitate a better understanding and appreciation of the Palestine issue.

The British Government authorized it as Chaim Weizmann had helped the British war effort during WW1. After WW1, the League of Nations gave Great Britain a mandate over the area, in order to form eventually the Jewish homeland there.

Some did buy land from the ottomans but I’m referring to the few decades prior to 1948
First of all, there were Jews throughout the centuries in the 4 holy cities of Jerusalem, Safed, Tiberius and Hebron. In 1929 the Jewish community of Hebron was eliminated after they were attacked by the local Arabs. This Jewish community was only restored after 1967.

Prior to 1948, Jews purchased land from the locals during the Ottoman as well as the British periods. No land was taken by force. When the British left, the Jews were forced to protect themselves from the militaries of all the Arab countries that invaded the newly established Jewish state. The Arabs' goal was to destroy the new country. Not only that didn't happen, Israel gained/won land in a war of defense.

Why do you suppose the Arab population fled? Since that time their lives have been one of imprisonment and oppression.

There was a country called Israel in Biblical times. Read your Bible!

Currently, approx. 20% of Israel's population isn't Jewish and these people have full citizenship rights just like the Jewish citizens. (See video in link below.)

The Arab population fled in 1948 upon the instruction of Arab leaders outside of Israel. Watch the video of Yousef Haddad an Israeli Christian Arab who mentions that his grandfather decided not to listen to those instructions to leave in 1948. (See the video in the link below.)

The Bible is not my source for history and politics. History and Politics is.
There was no such country in 1948 until Ben Gurion declared it.
There are plenty of first person stories that narrate the horrors the inhabitants suffered when the Zionists stole their land and drove them out of their homes that they had lived in for generations. I can quote sources if your interested. Many still do and also tell their stories of the horrors they endure today. The whole world knows. Truth will always out.

Besides the Bible, there are other historical sources which prove the existence of Israel centuries ago.

With that being said, I really don't understand how some people who have ZERO connection with Israel or Palestine are marching in the streets getting into fisticuffs with each other. Many of these people never visited, were never born or raised there, don't have any connection to the people of those countries in any capacity but are waving Israel or Palestine flags. And here in America the conservatives are going crazy for Israel while the leftist are screeching for Palestine.

Meanwhile, here in America we have a MAJOR drug problem, MAJOR homeless problem, our infrastructures need some serious work, crime is going up throughout the country, we have MAJOR illegal immigration problem. We are in the beginning stages of being a 3rd world country and we are marching the streets in support of countries that don't even care about us.

All those who are rooting for either country should seriously pack up, go to either Israel or Palestine and fight for them. They won't do that though because they don't really care. Its all about virtue signal points.

God bless the innocent civilians caught in the middle of these atrocities but my concern is America first.
Well just so you know, our American tax dollars are going to fund this Israeli brutality, so yes, a lot of us DO care! Other countries are oppressing others and committing genocide (China, Myanmar, Russia) but we aren't sending them military aid to do so...
