The muslim population in the U.S. is actually pretty small. Their organizations try to inflate their numbers by claiming there are 7-8 million. No one really know as the census doesn't ask that question but I have seen independent analysis that puts it more accurately at 2-3 million which would be less than 1% of the population. I travel around the US a lot and frankly rarely see muslims outside maybe NYC and Michigan and occasionally in some other cities.
