Why does New York have so many songs about it but London doesn't Alicia and Jay Z have a song called empire State of Mind their is no song as famous about London as that song London was much more historically important it was the head of The British empire so why no songs about London also fairytale in Newyork as well so what makes New York more iconic.
I am not sure it is more "iconic." There are lots of songs about London, and the fact that a famous pop singer was impressed by New York and wrote a song is not really a proper metric.
New York represents something to more people worldwide. The USA is the most desired immigration destination and New York is the symbol of that for the world. New York represents opportunity.
London's identity is more diffuse and has a smaller reach. Former imperial capital, a European capital city among others, financial capital. London represents sophistication and wealth, but those things are less moving than the opportunity to improve your life that New York represents.

'Fairytale of New York' was written by Shane MacGowan, who was born and raised in London, and Kirsty MacColl who is from Croydon in South London.

Nice selection. New York has Frank Sinatra's epic rendition of "New York New York" one of the most famous songs about any city!
Frank had a bit of a love affair with London and Britain, and he loved playing the Royal Albert Hall and other Grand Venues, whilst the crowds all loved him, and he even did a whole album of British songs.
Sinatra would even stay and the Savoy, which is home to the American bar (a favourite of Churchill's), where he would head for the piano and play surprised guests some songs.

Very true! He loved London and had a core base of fans there! He always sold out in London! Frank Sinatra was mentioned in the famous song by British group Dream Academy in Life in a Northern Town. "And through an open window came like Sinatra in a younger day"

Sinatra did play the North of England when he was younger, with a memorable concert in Blackpool.
