similarities between Jews and Greeks
- both countries have about the same population (Israel is about 7.5 million Greece is 10-11 million)
- both countries have similar economic importance (Greece's gdp is 20-30 percent larger but total trade is about the same for both countries with Israel having higher exports but Greece having higher imports).
- both countries have a blue and white flag one has the Christian symbol the other has the main Judaism symbol.
total Greeks in the world about 16 million
total Jews in the world about 14-15 million
both people can be found in almost every nation on earth.
the US has the largest Greek community outside of Greece
the US has the largest Jewish community outside of Israel
there are about 6-7 million Jews outide of Israel
there are about 5-6 million Greeks outside of Greece

some other interesting points
in modern Greek Saturday is Sabato in Jewish life it's the Sabbath
in Greek dad is Babba in Hebrew it's Abba
in Greek NOW is pronounced TORAH. In the Torah, God is "I am that I am" outside of time. Torah also means word of God and there's a parallel between God and His word for example
Ps.29:8: "The voice of the Lord shaketh the wilderness; the Lord shaketh the wilderness". Statements like "Ye have not hearkened unto Me, saith the Lord" (Jer. 25:7) are common in the prophets. Effectively God means 'You have not listened to My word spoken by the prophets'. David took the word of God as his lamp and light (Ps. 119:105), yet he also reflected: "Thou art my lamp, O Lord: and the Lord will lighten my darkness" (2 Sam. 22:29). It is understandable, therefore, that God's word is personified as He Himself.
what's weird about the Saturday 'Sabatho' is that it's followed by 'kiriaki' which means 1st day of the week (but people treat it like the last day), Monday is 'theftera' which translated means 2nd day, Tuesday is 'triti' which means 3rd day. it goes all the way to Saturday then starts over again making Saturday the 7th day of the week.

I would call the people in Israel *Lost* .....
After doling around for over 40 years in the desert,
They settle where there is NO oil .......
I call that *lost* .....
But ....
Back to the OP ...
How about if you look at history and then determine that a lot of culture was *imported* into Israel, by the Greeks .... ?
Would/Could that be a reason why there are similarities ?
You mention similarities in Language.
We could do the same thing in a lot of other instances, and get similar results.
So ... to echo *hasdrubal* ... and the point is ... ?????

I'll go along with the "what's the point" crowd.
The thread sat idle for almost 2 years before being revived by the OP........let's put it back to bed for good.
