Hi, just found this by accident whilst searching the web for something.
I just wanted to say that you really shouldn't worry about speaking only English, I have lived here in Sweden for nearly 3 years, and although I understand a little swedish I rarely speak it, only with older friends and neighbours (65+) as they didn't learn English at school (most of that age learned german, which also shares a lot of words with swedish).
As an example of the standard, I live in rural south sweden and yesterday had a reasonable conversation with the 13 year old grandaughter of a neighbour, whilst skating. It is common for the swedes to get him and her wrong (I have the same trouble in swedish) and they will sometimes be unsure of the english for a word (which is often the same).
Swedish culture and humour is very similar to the English culture and humour. English comedy, and drama is very in popular sweden, more so than the US variants, for example Fawlty Towers, Vicar of Dibley, The Office (English not US). We laugh at pretty much the same things.
The best part about Sweden for me is the quiet and nature, so come and enjoy yourself
