Sure, Albanians don't care about religion which is why the made stables are of some Christian churches!

Around seven years ago, I traveled one day through a southern valley of Albania across the Greek border to a university in the company of a Greek friend. A very simple but beautiful agricultural valley, I saw a farmer with an ox, but in the past 10-15 years I've also seen that in rural areas of southern Italy and Portugal.
Many Albanians have emigrated to Italy and Greece. Unfortunately, the ones in Italy have a reputation for running drug and prostitution rings. In Greece, it's a mixed bag. I knew two in Greece, one a farmer, the other a medical student from a very fine and cultured family. Albanians have distinctive facial features among Europeans, it usually is not difficult to point them out.
Albania was in the international news in the late 1990s when its financial economy collapsed due to a Ponzi scheme (sound familiar?), causing no small amount of chaos in the real economy, one consequence of which Italian troops and police were sent to keep order.
Many Italians and other foreign investors set up textile and other basic manufacturing in certain areas of Albania, also tourism investment, as mentioned, i.e. the beautiful and unspoiled coast line (but for how long?). Albania also has some worthwhile archaeological sites from ancient history.
Albania has been a pretty staunch NATO ally over the past fifteen years or so and, as mentioned, I'm sure many things have improved since the mid/late 1990s, reflected in the fact that we do not hear much nowadays in the international news about Albania, probably a sign of relative stability and steady growth, albeit perhaps slow.
Having said all that, if you do not speak the language and/or do not have local friends to guide you, your safest bet is probably not to wander off on your own from the tourist areas.
Enjoy!

Since several people here are claiming that Albanians don't care about religion and are not serious muslims... then someone had better explain to me why Albanians in Bosnia and especially Kosovo have attacked and burnt down so many Christian Orthodox churches.
And I've seen numerous videos and know eyewitnesses, so please don't deny it's happened.

No its NOT only hate arising from war. There's Islamic fundamentalism involved. Sure, its not nice or to the advantage of Albania to have such a spotilight shine on them, especially since they want to be part of the EU and they like to kiss american butts anyway, but that is the truth . During the wars in ex-Yugoslavia there were arab/islamic militia involved and conspiring with Albanians.

Without trying to sound too negative bias due to my ethnic background in the balkans, Albania is not really the best country to visit for safe reasons. When ex U.S. president Bush visited, someone stole his watch off his wrist. BMW's and Mercedes are the chosen type of cars for citizens to drive (hmmm wonder why?) Oh yes this is why, a lot of drugs, weapons and human trafficking happens in Albania.
There are some nice cities dotted around though. For example: Korca which has a very nice orthodox church in the city.

Yes, many of the stolen cars through out Europe end up in Albania. There was a high profile soccer player of Spain that had his car (Hummer?) stolen and it ended up guess where.......
Asides from human traffiking, unwilling participants end up "donating" body parts to the world's black market!
