Its one of the BRIC countries (Brazil India China) that is rapidly growing. The real has gained strenght of late as a currency. It has a sizable Japanese-Brazilian population. Feijoda completa is delicious. There are remote areas of the Amazon with tribes that may not have had contact. You were once a Portuguese colony. Iguazu falls is shared with Argentina and Paraguay. The capital is Brazilia. Largest city Sao Paolo. Copacabana beach is in Rio. Salvador has a strong Afro-Brazilian culture. Manaus has an amazing old opera house. Oh the Simpsons went there in one episode. Samba samba samba...Oh Ive never been to Brasil. Id love to go. I have been to AR and UG.

Some things I associate Brazil with:
samba & bossa nova music, beaches, bikini waxes , super models, crime & drug trafficking, amazon river, rain forest, & good food.
I don't really have much opinion of the people or culture cuz I don't know any Brazilian people and have never been there. It's not a country Americans are very exposed to...and I think it seems "exotic" to many people.

lets see, you speak portugese, All the brazilians I've ever met were very nice and hard working, seems like many of you have the same names (can't remember which ones, but I used to register marriages in a town clerk's office, and lets just say that there were tons of brazilians in that town, and a lot of couples had the same last names, even though they were not related)

brazilians are passionate about soccer (hence the parade down main street of the town mentioned above, celebrating the world cup victory oh, about 10 years ago or so)

The food is delicious. One of my favorites, and the simplest it seems, was red kidney beans with a sauce, served with rice.

Is the OP from Brazil? Do you know what red bean dish I was talking about? I would love to know how to make it!

The women are smoking hot, the beaches and Amazon are cool and it has its share of Nazis hiding out there.

I have no doubt that there is more to the country, but those three subjects are more than enough.

Southern Brazil is very European with many German and Italian communities and influences. I guess there's a strong divide between people in Southern Brazil and the "Northeasterners" (like Rio de Janerio).

This video has some cool footage of Southern Brazil:

YouTube - Sul do Brasil

I visited Argentina and Uruguay in June/July and really liked it, I would like to check out Sao Paulo and other parts of Southern Brazil.

There's a Brazillian restaurant in Ames (about 30 miles north of here) that I really like. Great empanadas and whatever the "national dish" is with the rice, beans, sausage and greens mentioned in this thread. It's too bad it's so far away though. Really good mayonaise too...
