hutch5, just curious... you've given examples of the US influence on the world, but what exactly is your expected impact of the US having either a democratic or republican president - on Spain and a Spanish citizen?

Actually I am not a Spanish citizen. I have lived in many different countries mainly in Europe but also outside Europe. So my way of looking at issues is a bit more global.
In any case I can give you an example of the different impact on Spain of a democratic or republican President.

Spain is becoming a desert quite quickly thanks to global warming. The US is the biggest polluter in the world. Obama wants to look at alternative ways of generating energy, McCain wants to drill and produce and use more polluting fossil fuel. So.....

This is just one issue but I can think of few more , except I have not time to write at this moment. I will be back.

Yes you are right. I realized it after writing the post. Sorry for it. In any case my point is still valid.
